THE MISSION

Current

Respecting the ancient art form of mosaic involves understanding its language, known as Andamento, which ancient craftsmen used to evoke emotions and tell stories through aesthetically captivating works. Only by grasping this language and comprehending the materials can one transition into applying it to modern mosaic art.

In contemporary times, modern mosaic art seamlessly merges the painterly qualities of colour, light, and space with the tactile nature of sculpture, offering a unique sensory experience for viewers.

The Change

As an emerging  mosaic artist who began this journey in 2019, amidst the challenges of the Covid pandemic, I am inspired by the dedication of modern mosaic artists who have spent decades pushing the boundaries of this medium. Having recently been awarded The Art Council England’s grant to develop my creative practice, I had the opportunity to travel to Italy and learn from esteemed modern mosaic masters. It is now my aspiration to create mosaic artworks that evoke powerful emotions and compelling narratives.

My Dream

I envision a future where mosaic art is prominently featured, perhaps even in prestigious exhibitions like The Royal Academy’s Summer exhibition. And if those works happen to be mine, it would be a dream come true.

I aspire to coach skilled mosaic artists in discovering their unique voice, helping them create meaningful and expressive artworks that reflect their personal vision. I hope my coaching style will facilitate the release of the creativity that already exists within them.

PRERANA

Prerana Phadnis is a published author and a contemporary mosaic artist. In 2018, she decided to retire from her role as a business coach after spending 25 years using creative thinking to help a wide range of UK companies to successfully re-evaluate their growth, innovation, and export strategies. She made this decision to follow her passion for mosaic making and writing about her experiences as a first-generation immigrant to the UK and share the insights she had gained working with businesses in and around London.

  • SUPPORTED CHARITIES

A percentage of profits generated from my book sales, workshop activities and mosaic works will be put back into community projects and donated to chosen charities. I aim to use creative spaces and studios that deliver a positive social impact, whenever possible, to run my workshops.
